Broughtonia sanguinea var aurea fma aquinii
(var aurea fma aquinii ‘10405’ x sib ‘10406’)
Seedlings (grown from seed).
Very popular species that is endemic to Jamaica and has been very important in hybridizing to develop red, warm-growing Cattleya alliance hybrids on compact growing plants. These flower in Spring to Summer on relatively small plants (plants can flower in 2” pots).
This particular grex from 3rd generation (f3) line breeding (by my dad Claude Hamilton and myself) of this color form and is a sib cross of the same color form, so these should all be of similar color. Our hope is to continue to improve the flower shape, size and color intensity. These are young flowering size plants that are mounted on tree fern slabs. LIMITED AVAILABILITY!
Photo #1 shows what the flowers of this species look like; Photo #2 shows an example of the size plants offered for sale.
We grow these in our Cattleya house where they get bright filtered light (2,500-3,000 fc), and watered only once the media is completely dry. These do best mounted!
Please note that these are seedlings and that there can be quite a bit of variability between plants (even with the same parents).
PLEASE FAMILIARIZE YOURSELF WITH OUR SHIPPING POLICY (ESPECIALLY AS IT RELATES TO COLD WEATHER) BEFORE FINALIZING YOUR ORDER.
