Broughtonia sanguinea

$20.00

(fma pink ‘10040 grex’ x fma Peach ‘Danny’)

Seedlings (grown from seed).

This particular grex is a test cross to evaluate color traits.  While one parent is a rare recessive yellow and the other is a rare recessive peach, we expect to mostly get typo red/pink offspring (as evidenced by the sibling flower shown in Photo #1). This is our hypothesis, we can only prove this by doing the test cross. However, even if these are all red/pink, we should get some very high quality flowers from this grex.

Very popular species that is endemic to Jamaica and has been very important in hybridizing to develop red, warm-growing Cattleya alliance hybrids on compact growing plants.  These flower in Spring to Summer on relatively small plants (plants can flower in 2” pots).  These are young flowering size plants in 2” pots. Photo #1 shows what the flowers of this species look like; Photo #2 shows an example of the size plants offered for sale.

We grow these in our Cattleya house where they get bright filtered light (2,500-3,000 fc), and watered only once the media is completely dry.  These do best mounted!

Please note that these are seedlings and that there can be quite a bit of variability between plants (even with the same parents).
